Yousry Sharif is well-known in the American-Arabic community and highly respected by Egyptian artist and American dancers. His international reputation as a master of Egyptian dance spans that of a brilliant performer, innovative choreographer, and meticulous instructor. What makes his work particularly distinctive, within a typical traditional framework, is his genius for combining folkloric idioms with contemporary and original movement vocabulary. Besides an instinctive sense of movement, his "ear" could be distilled as a source of genius. Utilizing diverse genres, from village sounds to Egyptian classical, from Western modalities to New Age world music tonalities, Mr. Sharif's eclectic and imaginative choice of music correlates perfectly to his artistic designs: movement and music generate each other and become one.
